Bio

Adam Welch is an artist, musician and curator whose work is a playful and occasionally sinister landscape of overlapping and discarded esoterica. His paintings and sculptures appear ever on the verge of a phase change, hovering somewhere in 2.5D, festooned with scraps of flesh and popped birthday balloons.

He is the recipient of the 2009 Individual Artists Fellowship in Installation/Sculpture from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and was awarded the 2008 Emerging Artist of the Year award by the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Selected exhibition listings include TAG at the University of West Florida (FL), Space Gallery (PA), 709 Gallery (PA), the Carnegie Museum of Art (PA), Gallery Majestic (OH), Fire House Gallery (NY), Fe Gallery (PA), Gallery 4222 (NY) and Krizic Roban Gallery, Zagreb (Croatia).

From 2016-2020 he was the Director of Exhibitions at the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, PA. At the MF he curated/co-curated a number of solo exhibitions and served as an artistic voice for the institution throughout his tenure.  From 2008-2015 he served as the Curator at Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts where he had curated over 60 solo and group exhibits of regional and national artists from 2009 – 2015. Also during this time, he had also overseen and organized over 30 group and solo exhibits of regional guilds, associations and international artists.

He holds an MFA from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (PA) and a BA from SUNY Stony Brook University (NY).
